Manage production orders
Use Production Orders to record what you plan to make, its components, and the production warehouse.
Find an order
- Open the project.
- Open Production.
- Select Production Orders.
- Use the column filters to find an order.
- Select the order to open it.
The list shows the output item, planned quantity, warehouse, dates, and status.
Create an order
- Select New production order.
- In Output item, select the item to make.
- In Warehouse, select the production warehouse.
- In Order type, select Make to stock, Make to order, or Value added.
- Enter Planned quantity.
- Set Planned start and Due date, if applicable.
- Complete the component lines as described below.
- Enter production instructions in Notes, if applicable.
- Select Save as draft.
The order appears in the list with status DRAFT and an MO- number.
The draft remains editable.
Use a bill of materials
- In Bill of materials, select an active bill of materials (BOM).
- Do a check of Output item.
- Set Planned quantity.
- Do a check of the component quantities.
- Set Issue method and Notes for each component, if applicable.
The selected BOM sets the output item and component lines. Component quantities scale with the planned quantity and BOM yield. For example, a BOM with a yield of two requires three units of one component. A planned quantity of four sets that component quantity to six.
If you change Planned quantity, the form calculates the BOM component quantities again. Do a check of the component lines after this change.
You cannot replace or remove a BOM component item in this form. To enter a different component list, select No BOM / manual components. This selection clears the BOM component lines.
Enter components manually
- In Bill of materials, select No BOM / manual components.
- In the first component line, select an item.
- Do a check of UOM, the unit of measure.
- Enter a positive quantity in Planned qty.
- Select Manual or Backflush in Issue method.
- Enter component Notes, if applicable.
- To add another line, select Add component.
The selected item supplies its stock unit. The order records the issue method for each component.
Plan and monitor an order
Only drafts permit changes to the order fields and components. Do a check of these values before you plan the order.
- Open the draft.
- Select Save and plan.
- Make sure that the status is PLANNED.
- When the order is ready for production, select Release.
- When production starts, select Mark in progress.
- When production finishes, select Mark completed.
The status changes in this sequence:
| Action | Resulting status |
|---|---|
| Save as draft | DRAFT |
| Save and plan | PLANNED |
| Release | RELEASED |
| Mark in progress | IN PROGRESS |
| Mark completed | COMPLETED |
These actions record order progress. Mark completed does not issue component stock or receive output stock. The component issue method does not cause a stock movement from this page.
Cancel an order
You can cancel an order in DRAFT, PLANNED, or RELEASED. Cancellation cannot be reversed.
- Open the order.
- Select Cancel production order.
- Accept the cancellation in the confirmation dialog.
- Make sure that the status is CANCELLED.
In the order list, the same action appears under More production order actions.
If you cannot save
Select an output item with a stock unit and a production warehouse. The planned output quantity must be greater than zero. Each selected component must have a unit and a positive quantity.
If the order is no longer a draft, its fields are read-only. Use the available status actions to record its progress.
