BOMs
A bill of materials (BOM) lists the components for a parent item and the quantity that the BOM produces. Use Inventory > BOMs to manage these records.
Find a BOM
- Open Inventory.
- Select BOMs.
- Enter a name or item reference in Search BOMs....
- If necessary, select a status in Filter BOM status.
- Expand the BOM row.
Use BOM details for the parent item, status, and yield. Use Components for the component items, quantities, units, and notes.
Create a BOM
- Select New BOM.
- In Parent item, search for the item that the BOM produces.
- Select the parent item from the results.
- If applicable, enter BOM name.
- Select Active or Inactive in Status.
- Enter Yield quantity.
- If applicable, enter Description and Notes.
- Select Components.
- Select Add component.
- Select the component item.
- Enter the component quantity.
- Select the component UOM.
- If applicable, enter component Notes.
- Do steps 9 through 13 again for each additional line.
- Select Save changes.
The yield quantity is the parent output for the listed component quantities. For example, a yield of 10 means the component quantities describe the inputs for 10 parent units.
Yield and component quantities must be greater than zero. A component cannot be the same item as the parent.
After the save succeeds, the saved BOM remains expanded. Creating a BOM defines the component structure; it does not post a production completion.
Edit a BOM
- Find and expand the BOM.
- Open More BOM actions.
- Select Edit expanded BOM.
- Change the applicable BOM details fields.
- Select Components to change the component lines.
- Select Save changes.
The parent item cannot change on an existing BOM. Create another BOM if the structure must belong to another parent item.
Use Add component to add a line. Use the named component controls to remove a line or move it up or down. The saved component list includes the new line order and removes lines that you deleted during editing.
To discard unsaved changes, open More BOM actions and select Cancel changes.
Archive a BOM
Archiving keeps the BOM and its components for reference. An archived BOM is read-only and cannot be used as an active BOM.
- Find the BOM.
- Expand the BOM and select Actions.
- Select Archive BOM.
- Examine the Archive BOM? dialog.
- Select Archive BOM.
The status changes to Archived after the operation succeeds. Use the Archived status filter to find the record later.
Resolve a save error
The editor keeps the draft when a save fails. Correct each displayed error, then select Save changes again.
For component errors, make sure of the item selection, positive quantity, and UOM on the specified line. If an archive fails, the confirmation dialog shows the error and keeps the original BOM unchanged.
