Inventory settings

Use Inventory > Settings to manage inventory defaults and the shared records used by items. The page contains General, Categories, Pricing, and Attributes.

Set inventory defaults

  1. Open Inventory.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In General, select Costing method.
  4. Wait for Configuration saved.
  5. Select Default warehouse.
  6. Wait for Configuration saved.

Each selection saves immediately. There is no separate save action for these fields.

The costing choices are Average Cost, FIFO, and Standard Cost. The default warehouse supplies a warehouse selection for new transactions. Select None to clear that default.

Create a category

Categories group related items in a hierarchy.

  1. In Categories, select New category.
  2. Enter Name.
  3. If applicable, enter Code and Description.
  4. Select Parent category, or keep None (root level).
  5. Select Create category.

The category appears in the tree after creation succeeds. To create a category under an existing category, select Child on that category's row.

Assign items to a category

  1. Expand the category.
  2. Use + Assign item… to select an item.
  3. Make sure that the item appears under the category.

The assignment saves when you select the item. Use Remove item for an assignment that no longer applies.

To change a category, select Edit on its row and select Save changes after editing. Use Deactivate or Reactivate to change its active status.

Create an attribute

Attributes describe variant differences, such as color or size.

  1. In Attributes, select New attribute.
  2. Enter Name and Code.
  3. If applicable, enter Description.
  4. Select Create attribute.
  5. Expand the new attribute.
  6. Select Add value.
  7. Enter Code and Display value.
  8. Set Sort order as applicable.
  9. Select Add value.

Do steps 6 through 9 again for each available option. For example, the attribute Color can have the display values Red and Blue.

Attach the attribute to an item in Items before you use it for that item's variants.

Create a price list

  1. In Pricing, find Price Lists.
  2. Select New Price List.
  3. Enter Name.
  4. Enter the three-letter Currency code, such as USD.
  5. Select Create.

Create item prices from the Prices detail tab in Items. The list definition and its item prices are separate records.

After a list has its first item entry, create another list to use a different currency.

Assign a price list

  1. Expand the price list.
  2. Find Customers or Sales channels.
  3. Select the customer or channel in that section.
  4. Select Assign.

The assignment identifies the list for applicable document pricing. Use Remove assignment to remove an assignment that no longer applies.

To set the fallback list, select an active list in Default Price List. The default applies when no assignment resolves, or when equally specific assignments tie.

Manage price lists

Use the list's rename control to change its name. Select Save to apply the name change. Renaming does not change item prices.

Use the list's active-status control to activate or deactivate it. The default list selector contains active lists.

Removing an empty list permanently deletes it. Removing a list with current or historical entries archives it and preserves its history.

  1. Select Remove for the applicable list.
  2. Examine the confirmation dialog.
  3. Select Archive or delete.

Make sure that the list name is correct before you remove it.
