Planning
Use Inventory > Planning to examine forecasts, stock quantities, and replenishment policies for active items. A saved policy defines planning inputs for an item, vendor, and location.
Find an item
- Open Inventory.
- Select Planning.
- Enter the item code or name in Search items....
- Examine the item's forecast, vendor, policy, and stock information.
- Expand the row, or select Review.
If the latest optimization output differs from the saved policy, the row shows Update available and Review update. Open the row to compare the current policy with the latest result.
Include an item in forecasts
- Find the item in the planning table.
- Set the Forecast switch to the required state.
- Make sure that the row shows Included or Excluded.
The switch saves the item's forecast setting immediately. It does not start a new forecast run.
Create a replenishment policy
- Expand the item row.
- In Policy, select New.
- Select Vendor.
- Select Location, or keep Default location.
- Select Policy type.
- Enter the applicable policy inputs.
- Select Save policy.
The confirmation Inventory policy saved. indicates that the policy was saved. The table refreshes its planning information.
The vendor selector uses active vendors. If no vendors appear, add an active vendor in Purchasing > Vendors.
Choose a policy type
| Policy type | Use |
|---|---|
| Min / max | Set minimum and maximum stock quantities with lead-time and cycle inputs. |
| Periodic review | Set planning inputs for a recurring review period. |
| Nonstock | Plan from open sales order demand with a zero stock target. |
Nonstock does not require a demand forecast for its open sales order demand. The editor omits the stocking inputs that do not apply to this policy type.
Set the policy inputs
The workbench uses short field labels in the policy editor.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Service | Service level as a percentage. |
| Lead | Lead time in days. |
| Review | Review period in days for Periodic review. |
| Cycle | Cycle time in days for Min / max. |
| Lead error | Lead-time standard deviation in days. |
| Min | Minimum quantity for Min / max. |
| Max | Maximum quantity for Min / max. |
| Safety | Safety stock quantity. |
Select the correct item, vendor, and location before you change these values. Policies for different vendor and location combinations can have different inputs.
Change an existing policy
- Expand the item row.
- If multiple policies exist, select the required Existing policy.
- Examine Vendor and Location.
- Change the applicable inputs.
- Select Save policy.
To create an additional policy, use New rather than changing the wrong vendor and location combination.
Read forecasts and stock projections
The expanded row shows demand history, the latest forecast, and stock projections when results are available. Examine the forecast horizon and computation date before you use the result.
Pipeline combines on-order and in-transit quantities in this view. The forecast chart separates historical demand, forecast values, and any forecast overrides.
The Recommendation field shows the latest optimization result for the selected policy type. It can show a stock target, an order-up-to quantity, or a minimum and maximum pair.
Saving a policy changes planning inputs. It does not create a purchase order or change a stock balance. The displayed forecast and optimization output remain separate results with their own computation dates.
Refresh or correct planning data
Select Refresh planning to load the latest saved policies and results. If a policy save fails, read the displayed error and correct the applicable inputs before you save again.
Use Items to examine the item's sources and location assignments when a vendor or location needs correction.
